Diversion: Shingle Bells

You only get Herpes Zoster once in a lifetime, usually during childhood ("chickenpox"). Shingles are a secondary infection with the same virus. This time the virus, lodged somewhere in your back, attacks a neural strain.

Picture your body painted like a zebra (see above), with horizontal stripes. This is much like your nerve strains are positioned. When a neural strain is affected, the infection goes along the stripe, in my case from just below my right breast to the back, stopping short of the spine.

If you still can't picture it: Imagine cutting a person in half from head to foot and pushing him into a giant bread slicer. Take one of the slices. Chances are you are now holding a neural strain. (Please note: I said "IMAGINE". Do not try this out at home. You will never get the blood stains out of the carpet. I tried.) Grossed out yet?
