Launch Xara (yay!) and import your TIF images into a new or existing image (Ctrl-Shift-I).
Now, delete the channel bitmap (Del) in the application window and open the bitmap gallery.
The gallery still contains the channel image -- when you delete a bitmap object from the screen, a copy will always be saved in the gallery.
In the application window, select the image bitmap. In the bitmap gallery, select the transparency channel in the bitmap gallery by clicking on it once. Now click on the button marked Transp in the bitmap gallery.
Voilá -- you now have imported an 24-bit image with an aliased, 8-bit transparency:
